2 Lbs. Hamburger
1 Large onion
1 Bell pepper
3 Cloves garlic
1 Cup water
1/4 Cup snipped parsley
1/2 to 1 Teaspoon sweet basil
1/8 to 1/4 Teaspoon thyme
1/4 to 1/2 Teaspoon oregano
1 Tablespoon brown sugar
1 Teaspoon salt
1 Teaspoon garlic powder
1 Bay leaf
1/2 Lb. mushrooms, sautéed
1/4 Cup ketchup
1 Large can tomatoes
1 Can tomato paste
2 Cans tomato sauce
Pepper to taste
In Dutch oven combine meat, onion, pepper and garlic. Cook till meat is brown and onion is tender. Skim off fat. Add next 9 ingredients and simmer 10 minutes. Add remaining ingredients and simmer 3 hours or till sauce is thick. Stir occasionally remove bay leaf and serve over hot spaghetti. Top with freshly grated parmesan.
Home Made Spaghetti Meatballs
Meatball ingredients:
4 Bread slices
1/2 Cup water
2 Eggs
1 Lb. ground beef
1/4 Cup grated parmesan cheese
2 Tablespoon minced parsley
1 Teaspoon salt
1/4 Teaspoon oregano, dried & crushed
Pepper
Follow Italian meat sauce recipe and omit hamburger for sauce. For meat balls, soak bread slices in 1/2 cup water 2-3 minutes. Add 2 eggs & mix well add remaining ingredients. Wet hands, form meat mixture into small balls about 24 balls. Brown slowly in tablespoon hot salad oil. Add meatballs to Italian spaghetti sauce, simmer, loosely covered 30 minutes.
Tip: I add garlic to meatballs.

This is a recipe for an Italian meat sauce that simmers for several hours before it is ready to serve. We serve the spaghetti topped with fresh parmesan cheese, and sometimes sautéed fresh mushrooms. A crisp salad and a loaf of garlic bread hot out of the oven is all you need for this family pleasing meal!
