Honey Whole Wheat Bread

Honey Whole Wheat Bread


2 Pkgs. yeast

1/2 Cup warm water

1/3 Cup honey

1/4 Cup shortening or oil

1 Tablespoon salt

1 3/4 Cup warm water

3 Cups wheat flour

3-4 Cups white flour




Dissolve yeast in warm water. Stir in honey, shortening, salt, 1 3/4 cups warm water and the whole wheat flour. Beat until smooth. Mix in enough white flour to make dough easy to handle. Knead for 10 minutes. Place in bowl

and let rise in a warm place until double. Press down and divide dough in half. Let rise until double. Bake at 375F. 40-45 minutes.  2 loaves.


Tip:  Mom doubles shortening-uses more honey and uses less white flour.
